savinola jasonbrennan i forget where i saw this, i thought it was either flantz or bfod, but all games that have some lasting fun/appeal have a mix of skill/luck where the luck could plausibly be attributed to skill depending on the player (but it's never clear which it is)

savinola jasonbrennan the game problem tho is a general literacy problem, right? you can give a ten year old hamlet or w/e, but they still need a sort of deeper literacy in order to really _enjoy_ what's going on even if they can read the words. we forget it because we've read so much.

savinola jasonbrennan when my kid learned to read a few years ago, she could _read_ lots of stuff, but there were several large gaps between stuff she liked reading, books she could read w/ difficulty, ones she enjoyed having read to her, and things that were no-gos. same thing w/ games for _me_.
