    ibogost ok, i read the replies and your admonition, but i'd say gaming's no more closed than say, pro sports like baseball or football. only a small amount of sports-culture are the actual matches, much of the rest is largely opaque to people who don't invest equivalent chunks of time

      ibogost also, backing up cowen's point is that (since moving from BOS/PGH) i don't really follow pro sports that at all and i don't find my 'cultural life' suffers for it (but i did when i lived there b/c it was so locally relevant like SC2/Dota were among my cohort in the bay area)
