jdan this is sort of tricky because sicp/sicm are sui generis, but fraleigh's First Course in Abstract Algebra is a pretty solid onramp. the lidl/pilz Applied Abstract Algebra book is a bit heavy, but a good followup. artin's is a bit too dense for casual use imo, but it's good.
